Eye Protection safety for Infrared and Red Light Saunas - What You Need to Know.

To my surprise when I first went to a infrared sauna, I was not offered any eye protection by the facility. But this doesn't mean the saunas are negligent - there isn't actually FDA guidance regarding wearing eye protection goggles in red light and infrared saunas.

Yes, you can close your eyes, but the light clearly still penetrates and for many, causes headaches and sensitivities. Repeated visits and more intense light may cause concerns for long term eye issues. The CTSPAGUIDE's take on this? Better safe than sorry!

Wondering if you need goggles for infrared or red light saunas? Here’s what to know about eye protection, safety tips, and the red light therapy goggles CT Spa Guide recommends.

Since longer sessions and more intense light can cause discomfort, be #spasavvy and come prepared with our recommended eye goggles found here. Regular sunglasses won't cut it and offer the needed protection, since the wavelengths produced are between 600-900 nm typically.

And there's a bonus - the Mito Red Light goggles are FSA/HSA eligible!

Keep these tips in mind to ensure a more enhanced safety experience:

  • Never look directly into the light panels

  • Remove contact lenses before entering the sauna

  • Close your eyes even when wearing protection to maximize safety

  • Follow manufacturer guidance on whether goggles are recommended for your specific device intensity
