Water's Edge Resort and Spa

Location: Westbrook, CT

Type: Resort/Hotel Spa

Date of Visit: May 2025

✨ Services Received

The facial I received was great quality, involved steam, extractions, and extensive massage (scalp, face, shoulders, and hands). The therapist did an excellent job. The pedicure was adequate, the nail room was freezing.

  • Delicate Defense Facial (for rosacea)

  • Natural nail pedicure

💆‍♀️ General Service Menu

A handful each of massages, facials, and body treatments. You will not find specialties such as reflexology, scalp massages, etc. Surprisingly, with all the weddings they host, they do not offer hair and makeup services, which may be a missed opportunity for them.

🌿 Atmosphere & Extras

This particular visit was quite an experience - not necessarily in a good way! During my brief "tour" I discovered the relaxation room was cramped, and anything but private! Essentially you are sitting on chairs and couches (with no tables to put your drink) and you are facing & staring at the other clients! Yikes! It was also quite chilly in the "relaxation room" when wearing only robes. I sensed a "get in and get out" kind of vibe.

There were some nice extras, including coffee and tea, combs, mouthwash, and other products. I was disappointed that the bed for the facial wasn't heated, as feeling chilly took away from the experience of the treatment.

Booking is solely via phone, which is inconvenient, but the long hours the spa is open makes up for it (9 am to 9 pm on a Saturday), and they were very accommodating to take my reservation the night before.

📝 Anecdote

Yes, Water's Edge does include a steam room and sauna. Since I wasn't shown these on my "tour", I asked the front desk. The receptionist "thought" it was on the ground or basement level, and gave no further instructions!

So here I am, in my robe and sandals, searching through the hotel! She failed to mention they were in the women's locker room in the basement, and there was no signage! I was surprised that the receptionist of the spa was not privy to this information.

After someone helped me find it, I was disappointed to find the steam room and sauna in a very old, dingy area, and the steam room wasn't on and functioning.

Overall, I would not write off this experience as wasted because my facial service was good quality and thorough, but there are other spas in that area of Connecticut that surpass this one.
